Sketching Stars 2023

Exploring creative careers in costume design — with Disney’s The Lion King

STAEDTLER Teachers’ Club’s annual Sketching Stars competition celebrates the creativity of primary school pupils across the UK — positioning a passion for sketching and art as stepping stones for a successful and rewarding future career.

Our most recent competition explored costume and set design and production — encouraging KS1 and KS2 pupils to put their pens and pencils to paper and see where their imagination might take them…

Eq maximised the high-profile collaboration with international brand, Disney, with a highly-engaging campaign — driving UK primary school teachers to become Teachers’ Club members (if not already) and enter their class in Sketching Stars 2023.

Tactics:

  • A dedicated campaign webpage: to host the full competition details and downloadable materials.

  • Content-led social campaign: a suite of Sketching Stars-themed visuals — including Sketching Stars-branded graphics and videos (featuring two of The Lion King on Stage’s leading actors) — drip-fed throughout the campaign period.

  • 2x highly-targeted Meta advertising campaigns: optimised for awareness and engagement and monitored daily to ensure best possible results vs. KPIs.

  • Influencer engagement: working with primary school teacher-influencers to promote the competition on TikTok and Instagram.

  • A series of e-newsletters: announcing the competition to our members; a half-way point reminder and a ‘last chance’ mailing with one week left to enter.

  • Classroom resources: creation of five branded Sketching Stars competition sheets and bonus activity sheets, tying into the wider curriculum — allowing teachers to easily build activity into their wider lesson plans.
